ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Powers and Duties of Officers:

 

President:

  • presides at most meetings of the Accounting Society and its executive board

  • is Accounting Society’s official representative

  • reserves rooms for meetings and any other events

  • secures parking permit for guest speakers

  • approves membership applications with letter to students

  • coordinates revenue activities

  • solicits award donations for the banquet

  • coordinates classroom announcements

  • oversees all activities of the club

  • is editor-in-chief of the club newsletter

  • serves as a communicator between the student members and the faculty advisors

  • ensures that a continuity file is updated for the semester (officer job descriptions with helpful information, contacts and phone numbers, etc.).

Vice-President:

  • assists the President in performing presidential duties and performs them in his/her absence

  • ensures the execution of the responsibilities as listed in the constitution

  • strives to maintain Brotherhood and Friendship between the Accounting Society and all University organizations

  • assists in solicitation of award donations for the semi-annual CSUDH Accounting Society Spring Banquet

  • emails all Society members in regards to coming meetings and events on a weekly basis.

Secretary: 

  • records the minutes of all general and board meetings

  • writes a newsletter article(s) on any topic of interest

  • sets up materials, equipment, and refreshments at all meetings

  • sends email to all officers after each board meeting regarding topics discussed

  • observes and records member active participation for scholarship eligibility (meeting sign-in sheet, event attendance record, etc.)

  • prepares current announcements for the meetings and events

  • coordinates printing of flyers, meeting announcements, and special events at least one week in advance

  • posts the flyers for meetings and events on a weekly base

  • distributes flyers to all officers

  • maintains wall display case announcing speakers and topics;

Controller/Treasurer: 

  • prepares and approve event budgets and financial statements each semester

  • approves and requests all funding reimbursement checks

  • record and log all financial transactions

  • maintains copies of all expense receipts and income evidence (check copies, cash receipts, etc.); (e) should record and deposit, in a timely manner, all money collected, including membership dues collected by any of the listed officers

  • processes scholarship awards for the semi-annual CSUDH Accounting Society Awards Banquet

  • submits a budget and financial statements to be published in the first and last newsletter of the semester, respectively.

Website Director:

  • writes and posts newsletter articles publicizing speakers and events

  • maintains and updates website information, which involves working with the School of Business’ IT Department

  • creates, maintains, and updates web design each semester

  • creates, maintains, and updates web page discussion board

  • posts current picture of officers and events on web page each semester.

Director of Marketing:

  • coordinates rush week and other activities as a means to promote the Society and recruit new members

  • coordinates member activities of a social nature, at least one event per semester

  • maintains current membership list

  • writes a newsletter article(s) regarding membership

  • maintains the list of email accounts of members in order to forward meeting announcements and other relevant campus activities.

Director of Professional Development:

  • work with the President to identify, cultivate, and solicit event donors, honorees, and committee prospects

  • plans and implements social and professional events for members to partake

  • plans and hosts a “Mock Interview” every semester

  • works with President and Banquet Coordinator to coordinate the semi-annual Accounting Society Spring Banquet.

  • maintains relations with professional association meetings

  • jointly makes arrangements for every officer to attend at least one meeting of a professional association

  • jointly organizes a panel of speakers from these associations to coordinate with President for speaking engagements

  • writes a newsletter article(s) highlighting a professional association.

Historian:

  • photographs and documents Accounting Society events

  • maintains photo album for display at the semi-annual CSUDH Accounting Society Spring Banquet

  • maintains and updates a mailing list and coordinates alumni letter mailings

  • establishes initial contact with current alumni

  • solicits participation from recent graduates as new alumni

  • informs alumni of schedule of events through telephone, email and postal mailing

  • coordinates a member/alumni/employee social event

  • writes a newsletter

VITA Coordinator:

  • comes from a member of the Accounting Society and completes training in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program

  • maintains communication with the I.R.S. by attending and participating in meetings or seminars relating to the VITA program.

  • procures instructors and learning materials for volunteer preparer training
